VOCEL Celebrates Juneteenth:

Today, the VOCEL team celebrates Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when word that slavery had been abolished throughout the country finally reached Galveston, Texas, two and a half years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation and several months after the issuing of the 13th Amendment.

Listed below are resources and events to help you celebrate Juneteenth and honor the historical and present significance of this holiday in the continued fight for equality and justice.

Join us as we celebrate this significant achievement in liberation with the awareness that there is much more work to be done before Black families and communities experience the liberties promised to all.

In celebration,
The VOCEL Team
